ZERO® ENGRAVING MACHINE – A high precision, manually operated pantograph engraving machine manufactured by the Cronite Company, Inc., of Parsippany NJ. The Zero® Engraving Machine, or “Cronite” as some engravers call it, was originally designed and manufactured for the embossed stationary business. Today, some gun and knife engravers use this machine to reduce original artwork and simultaneously scribe the design onto the metal surface prior to engraving.

ZIGZAG – The design cut by a wiggle tool. Usually used as border motifs on 19th century American guns and as scroll backbones in western bright cut scroll.

Pictured is a zizgag entwining motif engraved on the cylinder of an antique revolver.
