UNDERCUT – Used in the inlay process, an undercut is made
with a knife graver or punch to form a pocket for the inlayed metal to
displace into when struck with a setting punch.

UP-CUT – In letter engraving, an “up-cut” is any cut made in
an upward direction away from the horizontal base line.
